Yo, so, what's the story with other foreign english-speakers here? Yall in Taiwan too? I'm chilling in my quarantine hotel lol, joined up because I thought it'd be cool to integrate with the open source / libre scene here in taiwan

I think you can also go to #self-intro to let people know your skills and interests to assist you navigate the projects and open source communities in Taiwan.

Saturday is my first day out of quarantine so while I really want to come to future quarantines, I will spend that day instead enjoying my first day out with my girlfriend hahaha

@aelcenganda Would love to join but seems like it is invite only now. Would you by any chance have an invite code? Thanks!
@kvn.0218 There usually will be some spots released after Wednesday because of cancellation. I am not on the organizer team to give you invite codes. For more information, you can go to #jothon

Hey Toskan, what's your background? The possibilities are nearly unlimited. @kiang recommended a good resource in the USA, code for america, and I bet there are similar organizations for your country as well. If there aren't, you may be able to set one up on your own! As for finding APIs, well, we could try to search together 🙂 What country are you in?

well USA is not really what I'm interested in.
Colombia... I've been programming roughly 10 years and I like laravel (like most people do) but I've done a lot of frontend work too with ssr, reactjs and even vue (v2) back in the day. Like freelancing small projects for 6 years or so.
They have this page here: https://datos.gov.co/browse?sortBy=newest&utf8=%E2%9C%93&page=5 but it's not really an API, its more like a dump of 10.000 csv files, most of them old (like 2018) and I haven't seen anything interesting. Even the uninteresting things seem to be actually kind of bad with not that many entries

Code for all is the network that supports cross-talk between all the "Code for *" players in each country. They have an open slack where ppl would DEFINiTELY know where to point you, or if anyone in your country/region has ever expressed interest in starting a group. Good luck! Make an intro in there

@wc-dufty just find a topic you interested in and check if there's data existed. If not, just write a crawler to generate.
At beginning it will be hard to get expected data. But once your topic attracte more people to join, and the government notice. You may find a better way to have the data if they want to cooperate.
Maybe you could also find more case studies from https://www.codeforamerica.org/

Code for America
Code for America is working towards a government by the people, for the people, that works in the 21st century. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit that helps residents and governments harness technology to solve community problems.![]()

Another option is to just trying to find a local g0v-like domain for your area, and see if anyone in your area is also excited by the "shadow government" approach to building things. Use the same branding, since g0v is an open brand :)
E.g., https://dan.com/buy-domain/g0v.co (someone squatting it :/ )
Or just b0gota.co is you can't somehow get bogota.g0v.co to stand in for the real bogota.gov.co :) )

If you do somehow get ahold of g0v.co, feel free to ping me! I've started managing some canadian g0v domains publicly, and am happy to advise if you'd like to do something similar!

Or if you want to start using colombia.g0v.network, just put up a landing page and open a pull request to point to it :)
