是說這週本來我有說我可以host，想要討論開發的方向，想讓大家分享使用過的deliberation tools的心得，然後brainstorm一下以vTaiwan今年的方向來說，會需要什麼requirements，不知道大家有沒有興趣討論呢！但是考慮到Peter星期三在飛機上，想問大家如果延一天同時間星期四會不會有空呢？

My name is Luca Lau and I am a journalist based in Berlin. Together with my team, I produce reports on socially relevant topics in Germany and abroad.
I am currently researching for a primetime format on German television about AI in politics and the questions of whether artificial intelligence can help our democracy, improve the work of politicians and strengthen citizens’ trust in parliament.

In this context, I am looking for applications of AI that have already been successfully tested or are currently being developed in order to present them to our politicians and, of course, the viewers in a practical way.

And that is how I came across you and maybe you have time and desire to exchange ideas on this topic or to show applications with AI in the political field that would be interesting for our documentary film?

I look forward to hearing from you and even more so if we could speak soon.

We don’t need to record the online discussion, also we don’t know yet if we need video material for the documentary - our first step now is research so we look into different projects and thought vTaiwan is interesting. Dear vTaiwan community,

My name is Phoebe and I am a Research Fellow and PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
I hope you don’t mind me reaching out to this email – my colleague Flynn Devine told me that Peter said this would be the best way to get in touch.
I am writing as someone who has been deeply inspired for many years now by the innovations in digital democracy that so many people within Taiwan have collectively pioneered – the vTaiwan story has very much shaped the trajectory of my own work.

I hope to visit Taiwan later this year, and am writing to see if there might be any opportunities to connect with and learn from those involved in these processes, to inform the work we are doing in Australia.

For some context: my research career started out with a focus on community wellbeing in contexts of disaster recovery and climate change, and through that I became convinced of the importance of exploring new approaches to collective decision making around contentious issues, seeing how corrosive the existing processes often were (e.g. decisions by governments in top-down fashion, or by small groups of over-stretched community members).

So, heavily inspired by vTaiwan and related initiatives, I have spent the past few years exploring the role that innovations in democracy and civic technologies may be able to play in helping our communities collaboratively progress through these issues and create new possibilities for collective flourishing.

I have so far conducted two action-research case studies using Polis – one the issue of staff air travel emissions at a university, and the other on the issue of extreme heat adaptation within a local government area in partnership with a council in Melbourne – with a further project planned in a highly hazard-prone rural community in late 2024/early 2025.

To inform the next steps in our work, I am very curious to learn more about the processes used by the vTaiwan community and in other related initiatives. I have been closely following various initiatives based on what is online, but I imagine there would be much more insight to be soaked up through conversation if I visited. There’s lots I’d love to discuss around the nitty gritty of moderation and analysis, as well as the bigger picture questions around democratic ideals etc.

I will be presenting at a conference in the US in early September, and I hope to spend a few weeks in Taiwan either before or after that.

I am preparing a travel grant application due on April 30th, so I would greatly appreciate hearing any suggestions around:
• any relevant events being planned in Taiwan for July/Aug/Sept/Oct (or as early as June, at a stretch) that I might try to attend;
• any opportunities to visit people/teams doing work using Polis/other digital democracy initiatives
• other people/organisations I could contact about this.

I am writing as someone who has been deeply inspired for many years now by the innovations in digital democracy that so many people within Taiwan have collectively pioneered – the vTaiwan story has very much shaped the trajectory of my own work.

I hope to visit Taiwan later this year, and am writing to see if there might be any opportunities to connect with and learn from those involved in these processes, to inform the work we are doing in Australia.

For some context: my research career started out with a focus on community wellbeing in contexts of disaster recovery and climate change, and through that I became convinced of the importance of exploring new approaches to collective decision making around contentious issues, seeing how corrosive the existing processes often were (e.g. decisions by governments in top-down fashion, or by small groups of over-stretched community members).

So, heavily inspired by vTaiwan and related initiatives, I have spent the past few years exploring the role that innovations in democracy and civic technologies may be able to play in helping our communities collaboratively progress through these issues and create new possibilities for collective flourishing.

I have so far conducted two action-research case studies using Polis – one the issue of staff air travel emissions at a university, and the other on the issue of extreme heat adaptation within a local government area in partnership with a council in Melbourne – with a further project planned in a highly hazard-prone rural community in late 2024/early 2025.

To inform the next steps in our work, I am very curious to learn more about the processes used by the vTaiwan community and in other related initiatives. I have been closely following various initiatives based on what is online, but I imagine there would be much more insight to be soaked up through conversation if I visited. There’s lots I’d love to discuss around the nitty gritty of moderation and analysis, as well as the bigger picture questions around democratic ideals etc.

I will be presenting at a conference in the US in early September, and I hope to spend a few weeks in Taiwan either before or after that.

I am preparing a travel grant application due on April 30th, so I would greatly appreciate hearing any suggestions around:
• any relevant events being planned in Taiwan for July/Aug/Sept/Oct (or as early as June, at a stretch) that I might try to attend;
• any opportunities to visit people/teams doing work using Polis/other digital democracy initiatives
• other people/organisations I could contact about this.
