This is excellent, thank you! Very amazing what you all are doing - I have lots to learn. I joined #vtaiwan and will ask questions as they arise (though will be travelling soon so likely not for a while)
couple other channels:
- in this slack, there's #vnetwork and #vnyc where ppl are working to transpose vtaiwan process to western contexts :slightly_smiling_face:
- there's a #vnetwork-toronto channel in the Civic Tech Toronto slack (http://slack.civictech.ca/), where folks are scheming how to bring the process to Toronto. Civic Tech Toronto hosts weekly hacknights -- this month at Sidewalk Labs new office on lakeshore. vNetwork Toronto isn't yet doing a pitch, but we're normally there prepping. lemme know if you're interested in learning more :slightly_smiling_face: also: meetup.com/Civic-Tech-Toronto

I have a SayIt related question (maybe @au knows?) — are your transcripts auto-generated or all hand transcribed? There’s so much material there!!
It’s a mixture of speech recognition and manual editing. Currently mostly manual, but we’re actively looking into solutions.

@casey also, this used to be a way to generate transcripts from simple collab hackpad.tw docs that followed a certain format (not sure if it's still being used in tw):

i often fear that the way 18F and USDS operate (and the civic tech community’s insistence on kinda putting us on pedestals) push the US civic tech community towards government tech rather than human services and strengthening democratic institutions

This is something quite unusual to the north American civic tech community.
yeah, there's something there. i associate it mostly with the order of operations -- ie. code for america, whose theory of change is so strongly tied to working closely with gov, being the catalyst for starting many of the local communities (chi hack night not included)
