英國最新一項研究指出，男人同時面對性需求以及飢餓狀態時，其神經細胞會主動忽略飢餓感，專注在性愛上。助理教授道格拉斯（Douglas Portman）稱，這樣便能解釋男性和女性存在的某些差異。道格拉斯表示，人的行為受到文化發展以及社會規範影響，但是男性與女性之間所存在的差異，便能透過這項研究進行說明。
