後者好像是大陸用語，但是目前翻譯的感覺是如果要用容器的譬喻來形容，好像變量比變數來得貼切？

meditation note while translating Aesthetic Programming

#Variable

謝謝昨日@r08322016 給的意見喜歡值「變項 = 變數 > 變量」，今天翻譯到「變數的可重複使用性」the reusability of variables 覺得「變數」、「可重複使用性」兩件事加在一起很酷～變數突破了一個人或物件必須要有固定的值，而是跟隨或依照外部或其他條件而牽連、改變。或許能代表一種演化、以及未知。當效率掛帥的社會偏好品質穩定、固定而非難以捉摸的人或事物，變數或許提供了彈性的空間，可以供觀測、感測的尺度變化的彈性。

#Function

今天花了一些時間在消化對（function）這個字的不熟悉和抗拒，如果把它從官僚、不可挑戰的權威感，轉換為想像一種武俠小說是的信函、武功招式對戰，好像就好一些了。也不會想說 function 是不是要翻成「功能」會比較好懂。

在 HackMD 的文本旁留下了這樣的筆記： function under the programming framework is translated in Chinese as 函式 which sounds very bureaucratic, not at least you think it as a Martial arts movie, agents throwing beaming letters and glimmering equations at each others. I used to prefer 功能 more than 函式, but now I think it emphasis too much on ableism.

#Argument

argument 翻成「參數」蠻能夠粉飾太平的，或許把「爭吵」都想成「參考數值」或「建議」或許就不那麼容易發脾氣（哈）。像是第二章的這一句 “Variables can be used in different functions and more than once (and also as arguments passed to a function subroutine)” 感覺很鮮活，就像投手傳球給捕手，球是argument，補手接到了就可以進行他的下一步作業（function subroutine）

#Geometry

I like the translation of 幾何：many hows, how many... as an ambiguous term for geo 土地 and metry 測量. There are many hows as to the measuring of the earth, in relation to the measuring of your body, from your very unique standing point of view, and with a set of your own unique questions, such as “how do you remedy that with your surroundings?“, that might resonate with an army of lovers from past, present and future. you know?

Viewing a comparative study of original translations from University of Oslo. I could sense the hegemony of the Chinese language from the translation of Euclid’s Geometry Elements as 幾何原本: elements became essentialized as original and fundamental. (with an authoritative tone hinting that it is not something to build on, experiment, or play with. postulates as 求作者不得言不可作: not as a hypothesis that you can contest. common notations as 公論者不可疑: undoubtable truth.

how to encourage measuring, sensing of our environment in yet unknowable and scientific ways? how to resist colonial and profit driven exploitation of the earth, people, other beings and to reveal the scale of atrocity and neglected narratives? how to pay attention to the procedure and repetitive violence that slow killing languages and diversity to the sameness, and how to reverse that, conducting alternative procedures?
